Forever is a project about women and their tattooed bodies beyond the usual standards of beauty and representation. For the participants of this project – and also for me – a tattoo is a desired aesthetic intervention and at the same time a possibility for self-determination and bodily autonomy. When I met the 12 participants we also talked about the tattoos meaning as self-care and political resistance. As the name Forever already emphasizes: tattoos remain forever. However this also means that they change in their color, size, shape and elasticity.
