The Japanese words honne 本音and tatemae 建前 describe the contrast between a person's true feelings/ desires and the behavior/ opinions one displays in public. These very delicate (and often contrary) sides, were impossible to sense and comprehend as a foreigner. Thus the feeling of mystery (as well as the feeling of hiding) accompanied and influenced my stay in Japan.
This series originated during my exchange semester at Musashino Art University in Tokyo, 2016.
